Preventing Delinquency and Recidivism
The League of Therapists clinicians work with children and families to prevent delinquency and recidivism. We begin by identifying common risk factors, such as:
- History of antisocial behavior
- Personality issues (such as impulsivity, poor problem solving, risk taking, aggressive, self centered, and low frustration tolerance)
- Lack of educational, vocational, and financial achievement
- Pro-criminal attitudes, values and beliefs
- Pro-criminal associates
- Lack of family care and cohesion
- Substance abuse
- Irresponsible thinking
The clinical team uses the principles of Structural Family Therapy and cognitive behavioral techniques to encourage positive social attitudes, values and beliefs.
These techniques include:
- Correction of criminal thinking errors
- Victim empathy
- Feelings management
- Relapse prevention - Stages of Change
Outpatient (individual, family and group therapies) or in-home interventions are provided according to the child and family's needs.
