Who We Are

We believe that clients function as part of a greater family and social system.  Grounded in Structural Family Therapy, our skilled therapists work with individuals, their families, and their communities to create effective and lasting change.

Most of our staff hold Master’s level or higher degrees, and many are licensed in the state of Virginia.  We function as a training center for professionals in the mental health field, and provide extensive group and individual supervision for all our clinicians.

For intensive in home services, lead therapists are paired with one or more in-home counselors to work as a team. The lead therapist provides clinical direction and case coordination, and usually works with the parents. In Home counselors work primarily with the child(ren) as well as provide more concrete supportive services to the family.  This comprehensive approach allows us to work most effectively with individuals and families in crisis.

Charlottesville League of Therapists was founded in 1997 by Stephen Greenstein, PhD and his wife, Frances Greenstein, LPC.  Steve is a practitioner and trainer of family therapy and is CLT’s Clinical Director.  He has led numerous statewide and national Family Therapy Training programs over the past 35 years.  He developed his skill in Structural Family Therapy from his teachers and colleagues at the Philadelphia Child Guidance Center and later as Co-Director of the Institute of Family Therapy in Philadelphia.
